Monday! I’m excited, not only is it Meatless Monday but we’re HOME! After about 3 weeks of being “out of the kitchen” I’m back! While I love traveling with my husband and family it gets old quick sometimes. Eating out every night, and for most meals, not having the comforts of home, missing daily life, missing our puppies and friends, and not having a kitchen! Of course there are the good parts too like seeing the world, experiencing new places and things, trying new foods and restaurants, not having to clean or do laundry, and relaxing (well kind of because “relaxing” was so draining at times). So one thing I missed most was my smoothies and smoothie bowls, as well as BIG salads and all the grilled veggies. Yes you may have seen on Instagram we did find an amazing smoothie bowl shop and the girls and I went there often. We also got our daily juices the first week we were there, and a few times after that be we were no longer staying a few steps away from Pressed Juicery. I missed the creative part, the options, and making my own. So I thought it was fitting to post a smoothie bowl today for Meatless Monday. I’m not sure if I will one of these Black Smoothie Bowls today or an acai one (since I’m kind of already missing the ones from Cali)Β or turmeric one I’ve been craving lately. I hope you join me and my co host Deborah for Meatless Monday and share your creations below or maybe find a new one to try from the link ups below!
Black is the new green! The more goodness you can pack into a smoothie or smoothie bowl the better, right? I remember the days when I was craving a green smoothie and wanted that bright green flavor, and so many times ended up with an army green drab green color. One day I started embracing that and taking it to another level with black smoothies! It’s what you get when you take my favorite berry smoothies and mix them with a traditional green smoothie, and to make it even better add in all the superfoods! There are so many options you really can’t go wrong. This is just one of the versions but don’t let that stop you from coming up with your own. Add in chia seeds, wheat grass, hemp seeds, nuts, seeds, ect. Than add the toppings. The day I made this I was wanting coconut butter and wanted some color contrast so I went with white chocolate coconut butter and crushed dried strawberries the girls were putting on their smoothie bowls. When it comes to topping options, the sky is the limit!

Black Protein Smoothie Bowl
Makes 1 serving
1c non dairy milk (used So Delicious Unsweetened Vanilla Coconut Milk)
1 scoop chocolate protein (Vega Performance Protein or Vegan Clean Protein)
1-2 TBSP cacao powder (Navitas Naturals)
big handful of greens (Earthbound Farms Power Greens or baby spinach)
1- 1 1/2c frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or even acai are some favs)
optional superfoods (added sprulina, gelatinized maca powder, and maqui powder)
Toppings of choice, optional (drizzled with White Chocolate CocoNutter Coconut Butter, goji berries, and dried strawberries)
Blend milk, protein, cacao powder, greens, and optional superfoods together in a Vitamix or high-speed blender. Add in berries and blend until thick and smooth, using tamper tool if needed. Pour into a bowl and top with toppings of choice. Enjoy!

This looks SO refreshing! I just discovered adding coconut butter (cake batter!) to my smoothies and love it! Being out of the kitchen for so long can definitely have be longing to be home
awhiskandtwowands
Thank you Sarah! Yes, I’m definitely going to have to track down that one! I’m finding our transition back being harder than I thought. First it was we got back so late to an empty fridge and now it’s that we have so much to do and can’t get back on schedule, tired and waking up at 10am! Thank you for linking up with us for Meatless Monday! Can’t wait to try your smoothie bowl!

Thank you! I hadn’t been using my coconut butter as much as I use to and have 6 small jars I need to use up! Not a bad problem to have I guess.
Julie
I love this. I am a fanatic about dried strawberries so I love that you added them to your smoothie.
awhiskandtwowands
Thank you Julie! I just happened to grab them one day since they were in the cupboard open and they were a great way to switch things up and add color. I usually opt for fresh berries and we got those for a recipe idea we didn’t end up making so the girls were eating them. What’s your favorite way to eat them?

Love this. I used to hate that gross greenish-brown colour of berry smoothies with spinach or kale but like you I started embracing it recently. I still have my green smoothies occasionally (for insta LOL) but my non IG worthy smoothies are always black AF and I love them. Can’t wait to give this one a try <3

Thank you Giselle! I know how many times did we sit there and sip those delicious ugly green, brown, black smoothies knowing how delicious they were and packed full of nutrition yet not posting them because they weren’t that vibrant green color? Black is the new green and they are so IG worthy! Hope you enjoy it and can’t wait to see one of your delicious black smoothies!

i make a lot of smoothies but never put them in a bowl. i need to try that. frozen berries are awesome for smoothies!
awhiskandtwowands
YES! The thicker the better and all the toppings! I love my smoothies but smoothie bowls were a game changer for this smoothie lover! I still like my quick on the go smoothies but a smoothie bowl is not only filling and packed with nutrition I enjoy it and it feels so guilty to eat them some times because they are like dessert!

Smoothie bowls are all the rage! I love how they look more decadent than regular smoothies too.
awhiskandtwowands
I’ve always loved my smoothie and smoothie bowls are one of the best things ever because I get that plus all the toppings I always tried to add that didn’t fit through the straw! I love the texture and how filling and nutritious they are, and are so refreshing in the summer!

Is it possible for a smoothie bowl to be sexy??? It’s like the little, black dress version of a smoothie bowl!
Welcome back by the way (belated…)! Glad you had such a great time. I’ll have to check out the smoothie place you mentioned.
I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you while you were up – let me know if you are ever in the area again =)
