Yes it is Meatless Monday, and I know I don’t usually post drinks like this especially on a Monday but….. it’s my 3 year blogaversary so cheers!

I cannot believe I have been at this blogging thing for 3 years, yep my first post was 3 years ago today. With all the sweets and treats I just posted for Valentine’s and making smoothies and sprinkle recipes in the past for my blogaversary I decided to do something a little different. An adult (alcohol) smoothie or float has been on my list for awhile. Don’t worry as you probably already noticed from the pictures there is a pretty amazing non alcoholic version as well. While I have posted some on Instagram before mixing my kombucha with alcohol or other floats this had to be exciting and my vision was set in stone a few weeks ago after going to Milkjam Creamery. It is a brand new local ice cream shop that had an ice cream called Poppin’ Bubbles which is an ice cream made with 50% champagne! Oh and it gets better… it’s vegan AND they also have a Champagne Float! Yep it doesn’t get much better, oh well maybe they have this amazing Black ice cream which is also gluten free and vegan made with the darkest cocoa and it is so good! It was so good that I actually went there twice in one week! Once with the family after going to the opening of the 1st and only all vegan butcher shop, and a few days later while meeting up with up friend I met on social media years ago that I was finally able to meet up with! She happens to work for 22 Days, which if you follow me on social media you know I love their bars the Chocolate Cherry Bliss, Mocha Mantra, and PB Chocolate Chip Nirvana. The PB Nirvana now in a shiny gold package, which is just as delicious as when it was in a white wrapper years back but now definitely has a flare and style that makes me smile, and I’ll admit I’m a sucker for good packaging (when on a good product especially) that’s how I pick out my wine. So talking to her about my idea as we had ice cream and how it had been on my list for awhile but didn’t have a good strawberry protein I liked to make the protein version. I could do it with vanilla yes but in my head it was always a pretty pink strawberry. I also didn’t want a protein with greens in it for this which is pretty much all I use since I really use them for overall nutrition and not just for protein. I had planned to do it with a vanilla but when I heard 22 Days had just come out with a new strawberry I had to give it a shot. It made a pretty pink just like I dreamed of but there wasn’t as much flavor as I had hoped to be honest. I thought maybe it was the milk I used so I used a different milk and there was more flavor this time. Not wanting to have the flavor a little stronger with the float I did blend in frozen berries.

Since the girls have to celebrate too and I had to play with my options we also made an non alcoholic version with strawberry Zevia soda. To keep with my original crazy I wanted to make a “protein shake” version but to keep it a float and instead of blending it up I froze the protein smoothie into my ice ball molds. I use these Zoku Ice Ball Molds I picked up at Home Goods or Williams Sonoma to make ice balls to use use for the holidays and entertaining year round. Making a protein smoothie you can make two ice balls and have a little left. Alternatively I also wanted to make it with ice cream but instead of just putting scoops of ice cream in the floats I also made those into big ice balls! A pint of ice cream will get you three, almost 4 ice balls. I used one of my favs So Delicious Strawberry Coconut Milk Ice Cream. I think of it as if I were going to celebrate in the morning I would have the protein version and for dessert or a treat the ice cream version. With so many options I think these floats will be making an appearance or two at this summers get togethers. I can make the ice cream balls in advance and store them in the freezer, kids can have them with soda and us adults can have a little fun with sparkling wine, champagne, or for a mocktail kombucha.

Cheers to all of you for all my faithful friends, family, and followers who have stuck with me and my sometimes crazy ideas through the year as well as new followers who are always welcome!

To make a float you will need 1 ice ball and 6-8 ounces of champagne, soda, or kombucha. Make ice balls as directed below. Remove ice balls from freezer and place in a glass, top with champagne, soda, or kombucha. Enjoy!

Strawberry Protein Balls
Makes 2 ice balls (used Zoku Ice Ball Molds)
1 packet/serving strawberry protein (used 22 Days Strawberry Plant Protein)
1c coconut milk (used So Delicious Vanilla Coconut Milk)
1c frozen strawberries

In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend together protein, milk, and strawberries. Pour into ice ball molds and freeze for 4 hours or until solid. These are easy to make ahead or overnight if making more than 2 and storing in an airtight bag in the freezer until ready to use.

Strawberry Ice Cream Balls
1 pint of strawberry ice cream, makes 3 ice balls (used So Delicious Strawberry Coconut Milk Ice Cream)

To make ice cream balls set ice cream out to soften for about 15 minutes. Pack ice cream into each side of your ice ball mold and put them together. I slightly over pack them and then place a rubber band around them to keep them pressed together. Place in the freezer to freeze for at least an hour, if ice cream was really soft it may take slightly longer. Again these are easy to make ahead, especially if making more than 2 and storing in an airtight bag in the freezer until ready to use.

6-8oz champagne, sparkling white wine, kombucha or strawberry pop aka soda (used champagne and Zevia Strawberry Soda)
