Love is coffee and chocolate, and when you put them together with raspberries a Dairy Free Raspberry Mocha! With Valentine’s Day this week I thought it was the perfect time to share one of my favorite coffee drinks, a Raspberry Mocha. What better day then Monday since on Monday I don’t know about you but I need a little extra coffee.
A what use to be local, still is, coffee shop here in Minnesota called Caribou which has since expanded has a Berry White Mocha which was a favorite of mine for many years. I think technically it might now be a Berry Mocha and they as you if you want dark, white, or milk chocolate. It can be made with any chocolate but for this one my favorite was the white chocolate. Setting out to make a dairy free version and not using syrups for flavoring this Dairy Free Raspberry Mocha is an indulging treat. Yes while it is delicious this is not an every day coffee drink for me. A little rich and more of a treat drink, just like the ones you get at coffee shops but healthier still about moderation.
While this might be more of a Friday or weekend coffee drink for me personally I might have one today. Over the weekend there wasn’t much relaxing, well with the exception of yoga yesterday. Saturday I woke up early and I couldn’t get back to sleep so I made the family donuts. A had pictures for dance so I had to get her ready to go and then I had a Barre Intensive (90 minute barre class and this months focus was arms). S had a soccer game and the hubby had a long run on the schedule. Also add in some errands that A and I ran in the afternoon and our monthly Family Foodie Date (sushi) which we ended up doing take-out. Sunday up early to head to confirmation class for S and church followed by hot yoga S has for soccer and I decided to join her to try to relax and spend time with her. Then all the other stuff we had to fit in and this week is completely booked so I will probably want a little extra coffee.
Like I said I like mine with white chocolate, I think because it’s sweet but doesn’t over power the berry taste. Trust me might sound odd to have berries and coffee but they’re delicious.
Did you know they make dairy free white chocolate? Yes and if that isn’t your thing use dark chocolate, which is my second favorite in this drink. If you want slightly less berry just add less to your drink. Staying away from syrups I use real raspberries and like to use defrosted frozen raspberries since I always have them stashed in the freezer. Blend them smooth with a little stevia and it’s perfect.
The big thing for me in a coffee drink is the milk and while there are many I’m not usually fan of “light” nut milks or nut milks in general in my coffee unless they’re a rich thick homemade milk like cashew or my cashew almond. My personal favorite is New Barn Barista Milk, not sponsored just love it. It froths so perfectly too with out espresso machine. While I use an espresso machine you don’t have to have a fancy machine to make this. If you have an immersion blender or milk frothier you can use that and for the espresso they make stove top espresso makers or you can use a strong coffee or cold brew.
Monday not only means more coffee but also Meatless Monday! Thank you for joining my co-host Deborah and me for another Meatless Monday. I hope you are inspired by this recipe and the ones linked up below. Have a Meatless Monday recipe to share I hope you link up with us below.
Prep Time | 5 minutes |
Cook Time | 2 minutes |
Servings |
|
- 1 c frozen raspberries, defrosted
- 1 packet stevia
- 2 TBSP dairy free chocolate chips (used white chocolate)
- 2 c non dairy milk (New Barn Barista Milk)
- 4 shots espresso*
Ingredients
|
|
- In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend defrosted raspberries and stevia until smooth. If needed add 1-2 tablespoons of water to ensure it's blended smooth.
- Add raspberry puree to 2 glasses, if less raspberry flavor is desired use a little less.
- Steam and froth milk using espresso machine. Or warm in a microwave or stove top and optionally froth with an immersion blender or frothier.
- Blend chocolate with warmed milk, reserving foam for the top of your mocha.
- Pour half of the warm chocolate infused milk carefully on top of the raspberry mixture in each glass.
- Top with foamed milk, optional.
- Brew espresso and top each glass with 2 shots of espresso (sub cold brew or strong brewed coffee).
- Stir and enjoy!
In place of espresso you can substitute a strong brewed coffee or cold brew.

Usually they use raspberry syrup but using raspberry is prettier and just as delicious. No seeds when blended smooth either.

Yes that’s a hard one. I love that coffee shops have dairy free options but most of the milks are sweetened making the drinks even sweeter! Hope you enjoy this one.
