Chocolate Ginger Shake

My husband was recently traveling for work and brought me back Dark Chocolate Ginger Candies. Big chunks of chewy crystalized ginger covered with rich dark chocolate. He did good, they were delicious! He figured he couldn’t go wrong as they are two foods I really like. After working out I saw that bag of candy sitting there and thought why haven’t I made a chocolate ginger shake? Ginger is great for post-workout as it reduces pain and inflammation. So I whipped up my usual recovery shake with Vega Performance Protein and added fresh ginger, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, and maca. Yum! Sometimes the simplest combinations and foods are just what you need.

Chocolate Ginger Shake

Makes 1 serving

1 c almond milk or non dairy milk of choice (used So Delicious Unsweetened Almond Milk Plus, for the added protein)

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (use Chocolate Performance Protein, could also use used Vega One Chocolate, or Choc-A-Lot Protein Smoothie to fit your nutritional needs for the day you make it)

1 TBSP fresh grated ginger root, or chunk of peeled ginger, to taste

1 TBSP raw cacao nibs (use Navitas Naturals)

1 TBSP dark chocolate chips (vegan/dairy free), or chopped chocolate of choice

1 tsp gelatinized maca, optional (Navitas Naturals)

glass of ice

In a Vitamix, or high-speed blender, blend everything together until smooth. Garnish with cacao nibs and or chocolate. Enjoy!

As a Vega Recipe Ambassador I receive Vega products, which I used as an option in this recipe. I use Vega not because it is given to me but because it has been my plant-based protein of choice since before I started blogging and some recipes are made with Vega products I purchase. I only write about foods I love, my blog is an extension of my hobby to make fun healthy food creations for me and my family.
